Oya, also known as Yansa (Mother of Nine), is the Orisha of storms, the wind, tornadoes, the winds of change and transformation, and also shares lightning with her consort, Shango. She's is a warrior and the fiercest of all the women Orishas, as well as the guardian of the cemetary gates while she rules over the dead. While holding the demarcation line between life and death in her hand, Oya is also present at the first breath of life and the last breath of death. As a staunch protector of children, she will fiercely defend them. Also known as the "Mother of the Marketplace," she holds sway over all worldly commercial activity.
